Building Permit - Residential & Commercial (including HVAC and Erosion)

All building requires a permit; ie: new structures, additions and alterations to existing structures and equipment, heating or ventilation installation, moving or demolishing structures, decks, fences and signs.

Required Information and Documents: A plot plan showing the size of the lot and the setback from the property lines of existing buildings, if applicable, and/or new structures to be placed on the property. Two sets of blueprints of the building project showing the actual construction the proposed structure. These plans shall be drawn to scale and be legible. Blue prints to include a foundation plan, floor plan, elevations and a wall cross section. All new buildings shall have the energy calculations submitted with blueprints. An erosion control plan indicating erosion control devices locations, driveway location, dirt stockpile locations, direction of slope of the land and the degree of slope shall be submitted with all other plans prior to commencing any work.

Submit completed application and required documents to City Hall. Application will be reviewed by the Building Inspector and the applicant notified of approval or disapproval of the issuance of a building permit.

Inspection Notification: Inspections are required and listed below. Footing & foundations are to be seen before they are poured. All inspections are to be called into the inspector when completed. The inspector has 48 hours from completion to make the inspection. Most inspections are made within 24 hours of calling the building inspector. Final occupancy inspection is required at the end of a project before use or occupancy. If the inspector cannot be reached, please call the Department of Public Works office at 920-623-5908.
